After graduating, Westerfield began a career in graphic design and illustration which has stretched more than thirty years. His illustration credits include The Saturday Evening Post, The Covenant Companion and many other editorials as well as corporate publications. Westerfield is also the illustrator for a series of eight step-by-step drawing books for children in the Draw It series published by Heinemann Library. He paints both in his studio and on location, regularly traveling to favorite spots in Michigan, California, and Hawaii.
“Art is my response to and an appreciation for what I see around me. I am interested in capturing the shapes, colors, and contrasts of sunlight and shadow, water and shore, earth and sky.”
- David Westerfield
