Susan M. Rose

Susan M. Rose was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She began painting at an early age and knew that she would become an artist and educator. Rose received her BFA of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting, from Michigan State University as well as a Masters of Arts degree in education. She then completed further studies at Montana State University. Rose recently retired after thirty very rewarding years of teaching visual arts to K-12 students in the Grand Rapids area.

Rose travels extensively throughout the United States and has a new affection for the Teton Range in Wyoming, where she visits every summer to sketch and paint. Now her travels include trips to northern Michigan and Mackinac Island. Her paintings are predominantly landscapes, as she is interested in observing the energy of these places and echoing that two-dimensionally, not only thoughtfully but economically.

“The result I am aiming for is an image that says something powerful but that is painted in the most economical way.”

  - Susan M. Rose
